A lot of the time, we all do things without asking ourselves or someone else, Why do we do this?
Since our childhood, most of us have been raised in such a way that asking general questions makes us feel stupid. I have faced this problem.
I used to ask very general and curious questions. What is that, why is that, why is this done like this, etc.? Most of the time, my questions were ignored, and people used to start laughing. This made me not ask questions whenever the need arose.
This made me somewhat less curious about things around me. And I just started going with the flow. This whole attitude kind of started reflecting on my studies and other “life decisions.”
For eg. If someone asks a student why they are studying this particular subject, what value does this subject add?
We will all agree that studying those subjects was compulsory, and we had no choice. And we all have to pass exams. But having said that, while studying those things, if we had asked questions like, Where will this particular thing help me? And then, with some good reasons, we would have learned and retained more.
Even today, while making important decisions, if we ask ourselves, Why are we going to do this? and find some good reasons that resonate with us, then we could find more value in the things we are going to do.
It’s all about perspective.
I am learning the hard way that asking questions, even some very basic ones, is very important. Even if someone laughs in your face when you ask that question, it doesn’t matter because what matters the most is you get the “Answers” for your “Why”.
And tbh no one remembers. We are so busy as well as bad at remembering stuff that we don’t pay attention to others’ “incidents”.
Always ask questions. Why, what, how….. these are the words we should be comfortable and confident with. Asking questions will keep us engaged with ourselves. We don’t remember the moments when we didn’t ask questions. We will always remember the time when we asked questions. Think about it, you will resonate with this.
Asking questions not only keeps us engaged, it takes us to the “right path”. Even if some problem comes up and they will come, we will have the answer to Why we started and why are we doing this. And this takes us forward.
Ask, Ask, Ask
Always
